What are the causes of teenage hypertension and what are some effective ways to keep blood pressure in check?

Dr. Tom Says:

Some children have hypertension (high blood pressure) as a result of one of several congenital problems. These are fortunately not very common; most of them are treated with surgery, and some with medicine. The commonest reason for teenage hypertension is obesity and its companion, a poor diet high in salt and sugar. Treatment is weight reduction and a better diet, although medication may be needed for some teenagers.
